Full size low floor structure

A low floor transit bus is built as a structural cage, commonly stainless or coated steel, with composite or aluminum exterior panels and large bonded glazing. The floor is dropped between the axles to allow level boarding, the suspension kneels to reduce the step, and the front door area incorporates a deployable ramp.

Because the cage is the structure and the panels are largely cosmetic, a side impact that dents a panel may have done nothing structural, while a similar looking impact at a door pillar or a wheel arch can distort the cage. Telling those two cases apart is the first measurement we make.

Cutaway shuttles and paratransit vans

Cutaway shuttles use a van or light truck cutaway chassis with a body built by a shuttle body manufacturer, usually a steel or aluminum tube frame skinned in FRP or aluminum.
