What belongs in this category

A commercial truck is a chassis with a separately manufactured body or equipment package bolted to it. That separation is the defining structural fact of the whole category and the thing that makes it different from every other category on this site. Damage a box and the chassis is usually untouched. Damage a chassis rail and the box may be perfect. The two are repaired by different trades and the boundary between them is where the estimate has to be precise.

That is what distinguishes commercial trucks from vans, where the shell is the structure, and from municipal fleet vehicles, which are commercial trucks with procurement paperwork and specialty equipment attached. It also distinguishes them from towables, where there is no chassis at all in the powered sense.

The other consistent feature is that these vehicles are judged on uptime rather than appearance. An owner operator or a fleet manager is not asking whether the repair is beautiful. They are asking when the truck goes back to work and whether it will pass inspection when it gets there.

Dump trucks

Bed structure, side panel and tailgate repair on units that live under abrasive loads. The recurring items are worn bed floors, cracked side panel stiffeners and hinge point damage. Body and structure only. Hydraulic component service belongs elsewhere.

Beverage delivery trucks

Bay door tracks, roll shutters and side loading structures on trucks that are opened and closed hundreds of times a day. Door mechanism wear far outpaces collision damage as a reason for a shop visit.

Parcel delivery trucks

Body, deck, boom mounting structure and equipment installation on wreckers and rollbacks. Mount fatigue at the equipment attachment points is the item to watch, since those points see far higher loads than the chassis maker anticipated.

What these platforms have in common in the shop

Commercial trucks impose the same set of practical constraints regardless of what the body does, and the constraints are mostly about size, mass and time.

Length and height first. A tractor with a sleeper, or a straight truck with a long box, needs bay length and door height that most collision shops simply do not have. Our facility is 35,000 square feet and laid out for full size units, and that is the reason we can take this work at all. Roof level work on a high box needs proper access equipment rather than improvisation.

Mass is the second constraint. Trucks are heavy, they cannot be repositioned casually, and supporting one for structural work is a planned operation. That feeds into staging: we schedule truck work so a unit is not occupying a long bay while it waits on a part, because a bay that size is the scarcest resource in the building.

Paint is the third. A full height box side is a large flat surface with nowhere to hide a blend, and fleet colors have to match across units that were painted years apart. Getting that right is a booth and process problem, and it is why fleet paint work is scheduled rather than squeezed in.

The fourth is that uptime is the actual specification. We build truck estimates around the shortest realistic path back to service, we order parts at authorization rather than teardown, and we tell fleet customers plainly which line on the sheet is setting the completion date.

No, and this is worth being blunt about. We are a body, structure, paint, enclosure and equipment installation facility. Engines, transmissions, driveline, brakes and chassis mechanical service all belong with a truck mechanical shop. We repair the cab, the sleeper, the hood, the fairings, the box, the deck, the doors, the frame structure and the equipment bolted to the chassis. Anything that makes the truck move is somebody else's work.

Can you repair a cargo box without touching the chassis?

In most cases yes, and that separation is the defining feature of the category. A commercial truck is a chassis with a separately manufactured body bolted to it, so box damage frequently leaves the chassis entirely untouched. We inspect the mounting between the two before assuming it, since a hard enough impact can move the body on its mounts even when the box panels look survivable.

How do you match fleet paint across trucks painted years apart?

By treating it as a process problem rather than a matching problem. Fleet colors drift as units age and as paint suppliers reformulate, so we work from the vehicle in front of us rather than from a color code alone. On a full height box side there is nowhere to hide a blend, which is why this work gets scheduled into the booth properly instead of squeezed between other jobs.

Do you install lift gates, decks and racks?

Yes. Equipment installation and repair is squarely in our scope, including lift gates, flatbed decks, stake sides, headache racks, tool boxes and body mounting. What we do not do is overhaul hydraulic pumps and motors, which is a specialist trade. We handle the structure, the mounting, the mounting reinforcement and the body integration, and we coordinate with a hydraulic specialist when the powered components themselves need work.

How quickly can you turn a truck around?

Faster than most collision shops for body work, because we are set up for full size units and do not have to improvise access. The variable is parts. Cab sheet metal, box panels, doors and lift gate components all have different supply behavior, and we order at authorization rather than at teardown to compress that. Do you work with fleets on multiple trucks?

Yes, on a staged schedule. Bay length is the scarce resource for full size trucks, so bringing an entire fleet at once produces worse throughput than a planned rotation. We build a per unit list, sequence work so shared parts orders overlap, and return each truck as it finishes rather than holding the group. Direct billing is in place with sixteen major carriers if the work is claim related.

Is a reefer box repaired differently from a dry box?

Yes, and substantially. An insulated box is a bonded sandwich panel assembly whose job is thermal performance, so a puncture is not cosmetic: it is a path for moisture into the insulation and a thermal short that shows up as a temperature failure. Repairs have to restore both the skin and the thermal integrity, and on food carrying units the interior surface also has to be restored to a cleanable condition.
