What belongs in this category
A towable is a body sitting on a frame with axles, pulled by something else. That simple description hides an enormous range, from a 900 pound teardrop to a triple axle fifth wheel weighing twenty times as much, but the structural logic is consistent: load path runs from the body into the frame, through the suspension to the axles, and forward to the coupling.
That is what separates this category from its neighbors. RVs and motorhomes carry their own drivetrain, so the vehicle has a cab, an engine bay and a chassis with its own failure modes. Commercial trucks are working vehicles where the body is cargo space rather than living space. Cargo and utility trailers sit here rather than with commercial trucks because they share frame, axle, coupling and door construction with the recreational towables, even though nothing about them is recreational.
The other thing this category shares is weight sensitivity. Towables are built light on purpose, and every repair decision has to respect the rating, because adding structure adds mass and mass is the constraint the whole vehicle was designed around.

Bunkhouse fifth wheels
Family layouts with a separate bunk room, which usually means an extra slide and a longer body. Repair thinking is the fifth wheel platform, with the caveat that more slides means more openings in the sidewall and more places for the structure to be interrupted.
Luxury destination trailers
Large trailers built to sit on a site for a season with residential finishes and large glass areas. They behave like park models in use and like travel trailers on the road, and the damage we see usually comes from the few times a year they actually move.
Expandable and hybrid trailers
Hard sided trailers with fold out tent ends. They combine travel trailer sidewall construction with the canvas, seal and lift issues of a pop up, so a repair often crosses both approaches in one job.
Ultra lite trailers
Trailers built to the absolute minimum weight so a half ton truck or a large SUV can pull them. Thinner structure and lighter framing mean less margin, so damage propagates further from the impact point than it would on a conventional trailer of the same size.

What these platforms have in common in the shop
Every towable that comes through the door shares four constraints, and they shape the estimate more than the specific platform does.
The first is weight. These vehicles are built to a rating and every pound of added structure eats into payload the owner already uses. We do not solve a soft floor or a cracked sidewall by adding mass without discussing what it costs you in capacity, because a repaired trailer that can no longer carry your gear is not a repaired trailer.
The second is that lamination and adhesive construction dominate. Most modern towable sidewalls are bonded assemblies, and when a bond fails the visible damage is a bubble or a wave that is much smaller than the affected area. Probing the actual extent before quoting is standard practice here, and it is why a towable estimate frequently grows once the panel is opened.
The third is bay space and staging. A triple axle fifth wheel is longer than most coaches and it cannot be moved under its own power, so every position change needs a tow vehicle and a plan. Can you work on a trailer if I cannot tow it to you?

You will need to arrange transport, because we are in shop only and do not service vehicles at storage yards or campgrounds. Any competent RV transport operator can move a towable, and they will need three things from you before dispatching: overall length, coupling type, and loaded weight. If the trailer has suspension or axle damage that makes towing unsafe, say so when you book the transport rather than after.
What does the roof tell you about the rest of the trailer?

More than any other single inspection. Towables live outdoors, and the roof membrane and its sealant are what stand between the weather and a wood or composite structure that does not tolerate moisture. Membrane condition, seam sealant and the seals around every roof penetration predict what we will find inside the walls with uncomfortable accuracy, which is why we look at the roof on every intake regardless of the reason for the visit.
Is a truck camper covered here even though it has no frame?

Do you repair ultra lite trailers differently?
